Aerovox Corporation’s Compliance Statement
This statement clarifies Aerovox’ product compliance with the European Union’s directive 2002/95/EC, Restrictions of Hazardous Substances (”RoHS” directive) and similar regulations that may be adopted by other countries.
In keeping with Aerovox Corp's (“Aerovox”) health, safety and environmental policies, Aerovox supports and endorses the RoHS and REACH objectives of protecting the health and safety of our employees and customers, our community and the environment. Aerovox is fully committed to working closely with our supply chain partners to ensure all raw materials purchased and used in the manufacture or support of manufacturing are or will be registered in accordance with published guidelines.
What is REACH?
Enacted June 1, 2007 Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 or the EU chemicals regulation REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) requires that manufacturers notify customers of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) contained in articles in excess of 0.1% by weight.
Aerovox parts are considered "ARTICLES" as defined:
Article: an object, which during production is given a special shape, surface or design which determines its function to a greater degree than does its chemical composition.
Articles need to be registered if they meet criteria established in Title II, Chapter 1, Article § 7.1(a) & § 7.1(b) of the legislation.
Registration and notification of substances in articles
7.1 Any producer or importer of articles shall submit a registration to the Agency for any substance contained in those articles, if both the following conditions are met:
§ 7.1(a) The substance is present in those articles in quantities totalling over 1 tonne per producer or importer per year;
§ 7.1(b) The substance is intended to be released under normal or reasonably foreseeable conditions of use.
Aerovox products do not meet §7.1(a) or 7.1(b) criteria and Aerovox products do not contain the 39 SVHC substances as defined in Article 33 (1) & 33 (2). Should criteria be modified or if we introduce substances or ship tonnage that need to be registered, we will immediately comply and notify our customers accordingly.

What is RoHS?
Enacted July 1, 2006 by the European Union the Restriction of use of certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS) is a directive created to restrict the use of certain substances in electrical and electronic equipment made in, or imported into the European Union.
The restrictions encompass most electrical and electronic devices and include large and small household appliances, IT and telecommunication equipment, lighting (including electric light bulbs), electrical and electronic tools, toys, leisure and sports equipment
Although medical devices and monitoring and control instruments are currently excluded from RoHS’ scope they have been recommended for inclusion in 2012. All manufactured parts and assemblies integrated into products that are regulated must comply with regulations.
